BTST (Buy Today Sell Tomorrow) is one of the most popular short-term strategies among Indian traders. The key is identifying stocks with overnight gap-up potential before the market closes.
A BTST candidate shows strength in the final 30–60 minutes of the trading session, often breaking above an intraday resistance level with rising volume near close. This indicates institutional accumulation ahead of an expected positive overnight catalyst.
For F&O stocks, check options data before selecting a BTST trade. Rising call open interest and short covering in futures (declining OI with rising price) are bullish signals that support an overnight position.
BTST carries overnight gap risk — the stock may gap down the next morning if market sentiment turns negative. Limit BTST position sizes to 20–30% of normal intraday sizing, and always have a pre-defined exit price at which you will cut the trade at open if it gaps against you.
